I believe we are taught empathy but to much of it can be a problem in itself, and just the same in reverse. It’s something we learn as we grow and it all depends on the individual
Can empathy be misused? What about a politician who rouses fear and hate in a crowd? I have no doubt it can be a powerful force for good. I explore variations of empathy and what it might mean in this series of stories. The set-up is that the aging leader of the mythical Veritas tribe seeks a replacement so she devises a series of subtle tests of empathy for twelve young candidates. Here’s a link to the first trial. Comments welcome of course. https://petersironwood.com/2018/08/07/myth-of-the-veritas-the-first-ring-of-empathy/
I usually try to emphasize and show compassion to people on a daily basis. Many people don’t even understand empathy and call me “sensitive”. I’d rather be sensitive than hard-hearted so it doesn’t bother me.
It has been a difficult year, though. I thought that last year was bad. I know why it’s been bad for many of us but I won’t digress. Here’s hoping for a better 2019 and welcome back, Fairen.
What joy to see you back, Fairen! Greatv topic, too. I believe we all have the gift of empathy and compassion, and part of our purpose in life is to learn to vent it, or share it. Sadly, many never learn. I consider myself blessed that I did at a very young age.
Nice 🙂 I don´t know why my name appears as Pedro José Marques, my full name is Pedro José Marques da Cunha but I only use Pedro Cunha – I´ll try to solve this mystery
Thank you. I am delighted to see you posting again Fairen. Perhaps I have been missing some of Thoughtful Minds United recent ones. 2018 has been a difficult year in many ways but I have Hope for 2019 as far as life in GENERAL is concerned. Would anyone like me to share stories about Magic Teddy Bears?….They have adventures but all are ‘life’ lessons of a perhaps ‘higher’ focus. If you want to see a couple have been posted on…. http://www.golden-rains.com (in the Bears stories section). Indeed if you lead and guide me I will still be happy to contribute what you require on Thoughtful Minds United. I indeed have Empathy in every way with what you are doing. Blessings and Peace!
Faye! Nice to see you. I hope to be posting regularly soon but it has been a difficult year for me as well but I will keep you posted! Glad to see you are still writing

True. I think empathy can be a set up to being manipulated. But empathy with wisdom is powerful
