How to Check Your Comments in the Spam Folder and Why You Should Check Them (WordPress Users)

Today, I will be showing you how to check the spam comments that have been tucked away in the Askismet folder but before I do that, I will show you why it is important to do this.

Previously, I decided to check the spam folder just for the heck of it and discovered several valuable and interesting comments nested there, unread and unposted. This is a problem because, as a blogger, one of my priorities is interacting with you all but if it seems like I don’t answer my comments, then all of my efforts to do this may seem worthless. Of course, it is important to exercise discernment when reading these as the spam folder is there for your protection.

So, here is a tutorial to show you how to check your spam comments.

Now, keep in mind that this is only relevant to WordPress Users

How to Check Your Comments in the Spam Folder:

Most of the time WordPress will not alert you if they put a comment in the spam folder so you  must follow these steps and check it regularly.

  1. The first step is to log into your WordPress account and go to the Dashboard. An easy way to access your dashboard is to type in the search bar “yourblogname.com/admin” (example: thoughtfulmindsunited.com/admin)
  2. In the “At a Glance” widget holder, there is the number of posts, pages, and comments on your blog and under that is the name of the theme you are using. Underneath all of that, there should be a message that says something like this “Akismet has protected your site from … spam comments already. ffixedf
  3. Click that number and you will be directly taken to the spam folder where you can decide if the comments are spam or not spam and decide whether to respond to them or not.

I hope this helps you all. Happy Blogging!
