Find Your Unique Writing Voice- Part 2

I always wanted to be a Journalist.

A Reporter, as they were called when I was young, carried a certain quality of excitement and adventure.

Superman always rescued Lois Lane, who with cub reporter Jimmy Olson, worked on the Daily Mail. The life of newspaper people inspired me, particularly because I loved to write, and had notebooks for stories even when I was a young girl.

The inspiration from these fiction newspaper stories prompted me to submit an application for a position at the big city Morning Newspaper Head Office my senior year of high school.

While my English teacher was encouraging, my parents wanted me to aim for more achievable ambitions.

Getting a proper job, like a Secretary, was considered preferable.

At the end of that year, just after receiving my qualifications for secretarial work, I was offered a position on the Courier Mail as a copy girl.

I was overjoyed!

Little did I know, that the journey to find my own writing voice was only at its beginning.

Exciting years ahead but different to my expectations.

Part 3 will continue.

Keep writing folks!   Let your own voice emerge!

  1. Style is as you say an ever evolving journey. You learn and grow day by day. We can LEARN from many others about style even what is popular ie for certain sections of society. The Voice I am endeavouring to find in my little series of articles is the unique voice… for example…..(ONE day Maybe for me ) and maybe one day for you,, Someone will pick up something you have written and by your name or your avitar identification they will know that what has been written will or will not ‘.connect’ with them personally at a heart, emotional or intellectual level and then can decide how little or how much of their writing they want to check out. This is why my own journey for me has been and is fiction ,historical, etc etc but hopefully no one seeing my name will be unsure whether they will relate to my written expressions at their heart level. Many folk choose to write a certain WAY style or genre to be popular, famous, or to make money. What unique voice I still journey to find does not focus on success but relevance to ordinary folks and ordinary lives, Keep writing!
